The Lepto Game is a 44-card educational game designed to make learning about leptospirosis practical, interactive and easy to remember.

Developed by PUREI in collaboration with Massey University, the game turns research into play, helping players recognise exposure risks, signs and symptoms, prevention and ways to protect themselves and others.

Designed with rural and high-risk workplaces in mind, The Lepto Game can be used at home, in workplaces, training, workshops, wānanga and community health settings.

The game was informed by research led by Professor Jackie Benschop and the Massey University research team as part of a Health Research Council of New Zealand funded research programme investigating leptospirosis diagnosis and outcomes for rural and Māori communities.

How to Play

Place the cards face down and take turns flipping one card at a time. Keep the blue prevention cards and discard the red risk cards. Once all cards have been played, count your points. The player with the highest score wins.

Or mix it up. Use the cards to play Snap, Memory, Go Fish, or create your own game. However you choose to play, each round is another chance to recognise the risks, learn how to prevent exposure and remember the key messages.
